New York fashion week is upon us and in the fashion community – fashion week is a festive holiday. This time is dedicated to attending fashion shows, fashion after parties or simply staying glued online to see what your favorite designers, models and fashion bloggers are up to all week-long. Basically stop what you are doing, art in movement is about to blow your minds.
One of my favorite designers in the world. His brand has embraced diversity in all its forms. It is one of the few high fashion brands that include all sizes in all collections. His muse – actress Danielle Brooks, happens to be plus size, African-American and dark skin. She is such a beauty and perfect for the role.
This year his show was graced by the likes of Danielle Brooks, Ashley Graham and actress Selma Blair who all walked the runway. As for his front row seats, they were filled with the likes of Cardi B, Coco Rocha, Whoopi Goldberg, Meg Ryan, his husband Brad Walsh among many other famous personalities. That front row sounds like such a good time, the show before the main event.
The show was in honor of the brand’s anniversary that made it extra special. Thus, the 22 minute long, 72 look show was the perfect extravaganza to commemorate his first decade in the fashion industry. Talk about a show for the ages!
Having plus size model Ashley Graham open the show was the icing on the cake.
His collection was the stuff that makes fashion dreams. The wide skirts, the figure hugging silhouettes and the blend of red and pink as a palette of choice, simply gave each piece its own love story. You could tell that this was such a labor of love for the designer.
Here is a quick look at some of his pieces from the collection that literally took my breath away…
Christian Siriano is one of the most successful alumni of Project Runway. His talent made me fall in love with each and every piece. The model selection was incredible, with models of all shapes and sizes, all skin tones and all races. His set up felt vintage, old England, royalty in all its greatness with just a hint of classic romance.
It is always a good thing to have a memorable show during fashion week. Whether you have models literally falling off the runway like Kanye West did a while back, or sisters supporting each other like Bella and Gigi Hadid always do, or simply celebrating the different kinds of beauty that the female race has to offer. Christian Siriano outdid himself with this collection and from all of us at Lysa, Happy Anniversary and cheers to many more years of ground breaking designs!
