There is no doubt that the Beauty Blender is a must-have makeup tool. Who knew an egg-shaped sponge could completely transform your makeup game? The only thing that is exasperating about Beauty Blenders is that they get dirty really quick. Don’t even get me started on how difficult it is to clean them up. Luckily for us, there is always a curious mind out there cooking up the next weird viral beauty trend.
Ladies and gentlemen welcome to 2018, the year that people are now microwaving their beauty blenders.
If there is one thing all beauty lovers have in common, it is the appreciation for beauty hacks. The Beauty Blender microwave cleaning hack is going viral on Twitter and it just might be the easiest way to keep your makeup sponges clean and germ-free. The hack apparently promises to clean your makeup sponge in just one minute if done correctly.
Here is how it’s done:
- Fill a cup or any container with soapy water. (a dish washing soap will do).
- Place the sponge(s) inside then microwave for a minute.
- Take the cup out of the microwave and squeeze the excess water out of the sponge. (be careful not to burn yourself because the water is still hot).
Just like that, you have a clean beauty blender. Easy right? According to Twitter users who have put this theory to the test, it actually works! The water in the cup comes out a dirty brown while the beauty blender goes back to its original shade, and there is visual proof of it.
However, the skeptic in me had to try it out to see if this hack is really a game changer.
I did not want to risk damaging my Beauty Blender so I opted to use my Wedge Sponges instead and here are the results.
Now you don’t have any reason to be using dirty makeup sponges.
Please note that for this hack to work, the beauty blender has to be in soapy water when you put it in the microwave. Do not put your sponge directly on the microwave’s glass plate; you will end up with a charred and melted sponge.

This is a quick and great hack to clean your dirty sponges. Not only does it clean the sponges, but the process also disinfects them. It is also gentle on your sponge compared to using soap and water which causes a lot more wear and tear to the sponge.
What do you think about this hack? I am sold!
