I like my money right where I can see it, hanging in my closet. – Carrie Bradshaw (Sex and The City)
How you choose to store your clothes, shoes, bags and accessories is important. Creating the ultimate closet with order and space is such a goal. However, it can be quite tasking especially for us regular girls dealing with minimal closet space.
We spend time obsessing over celebrity closets and social media influencers closets and trying to envision that for ourselves. Some of my favorite closets belong to the likes of reality stars Khloe Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, beauty influencer Amrezy and even local luxury connoisseur Sonal Maherali.
They have closets far beyond my current reach, but they give me great inspiration. Working with a small closet space can be creatively challenging but it is possible.
Here are a few helpful tips to get you started.
Work with a great carpenter
A carpenter is the best person to go to for all your custom-made furniture requirements. Regular closets might not give you too many options but your carpenter can fix that. Get some built-in drawers for more storage space, some more rods for your hangers and shelves for your shoes and bags.
He can even get creative with your closet doors, by placing metal rods that can act as necklace hangers to avoid tangling.
Get some fancy storage boxes and trays
Go to your local store for home supplies. Head over to either the bed, bath and beyond section or the utensils section. Get some decorative boxes for your closet. Better yet, you can get clear plastic boxes and DIY them into something fancy according to your personal style.
These boxes can fill up that empty space in your closet and you can use them to store tiny bags, sunglasses, jewelry, hats or even makeup.
Get custom shoe and bag cases
These cases can be purchased either online or at your local super markets. They are made of cloth and have pockets that are tailored to fit pairs of shoes and specific handbag sizes.
For the girl who collects shoes and bags, this will be perfect extra space for all the extra shoes you keep adding to your collection. Better yet, get something like this.
Get coordinated and organized
Color coordination is a great friend to all my fellow OCD babes. It not only gives you a sense of clarity when you open your closet doors, but it also makes getting ready a whole lot easier.
You can opt to keep your clothes either organized according to color, type of clothing or occasion. Whatever floats your boat as long as it works for you.
Clutter wastes your time and keeps your fabulous pieces far from reach. Take time once a week to organize your closet and at least clean it out once a month. Doing giveaways, donating to the less fortunate, handing it down to someone or having a closet sale. These are some of the many ways to de-clutter your closet of unnecessary baggage.
Your dream closet can be easily achieved. Find what works for you and make a habit of working with what you have to create magic and the ultimate closet space.
