The Met Gala happens to be one of the most prestigious nights and event in fashion. It takes place annually and in New York city, at the Metropolitan Museum. This is a costume event where designers team up with the stars to create incredible designs that stay true to the theme. This theme is provided by Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine and an organizer of this magical event.
The Ocean’s 8 movie just premiered internationally.
The cast alone is reason enough to watch this movie. It features the likes of Sandra Bullock, Rihanna, Mindy Kailing just to drop a few power house names.
Trust that all over the world, premiers will be held to a high esteem.
However, I doubt that any premier event will come as close to the Nigerian premier in terms of style quality and style delivery.
The Film house in Lekki was the location and the social media hashtag is #takeyour8. This was a celebrity studded event and the theme was that of the Met Ball 2018. This year’s theme was “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion And The Catholic Imagination”. The celebrities in Nigeria gave us a taste of their own version.
Nigeria is known as one of the most explosive hubs when it comes to African fashion. They have a love for all things luxury and looking fabulous is in their DNA as a nation. The invited guests did not leave a stone un-turned. What was even more impressive was the creativity of African designers.
Here is a look at some of the most impressive looks of the night.
This brings me back to the discussion of whether Africa is ready for vogue. That conversation had a ton of mixed feelings. I think that we are already in a league of our own. Maybe not the entire continent, but a few countries are really investing in their fashion industries. Nigeria is definitely at the top of that list, I mean see the beauty displayed in the images above. It is time we create our own global fashion publishing and curate an event that shines a light on the rich creativity deep in the African continent.
This was a job well done from the designers, to the stylists, makeup artists and the celebrities themselves. I am truly impressed but with my knowledge of Nigerian fashion, I am not surprised. Nigerians always bring their A game.
