We learn so much from what is brought to life using a camera. From pictures we see untold stories of people and places. We feel their pain and happiness through their facial expressions, we learn about their rich history and get to appreciate their beauty. From film we see the images in motion, sometimes in silence and most times we listen to the dialogue in process.
Photography is creativity at its best.
You might think one photographer is exactly like ten photographers but a lover of art like me sees so much individuality in each photographer’s work. Every creative is telling either their own stories or the stories of the world around them through their art.
Jonathan Kope is a photographer currently based in South Africa and his work takes him between Cape Town and Johannesburg. He is known for his extraordinary fashion images for magazine editorials and his ability to create magic though his visuals. When it comes to him as a person, there is not much to tell. His work speaks for him before he even makes an introduction.
His images are futuristic.
They indicate a society that is stagnant in an ever-changing world. His commercial work has been widely appreciated. It is the shot he captured for the cover of Elle South Africa’s March 2018 issue that caught my attention. That was a breath-taking cover! You could see how he brought out his spectacular talent by appreciating the true beauty of each cover girl.
Jonathan Kope has this ability to make his muses look as if they are at peace, filled with so much happiness within the frame. His work brings someone’s true personality to life through a single image. He collaborates with fellow creatives in South Africa and is not afraid to step out of his comfort zone as he interacts with different minds to create what I would call pure magic.
Here is a look at his incredible work…
