With Coachella a.k.a Beychella freshly wrapped up, it only makes sense for me to put together a festive-inspired hair and makeup guide. This will serve as inspiration for the ladies that want to figure out how to get dolled up for such future events.
Early February we had the ‘Africa Nouveau Fest’ and whereas most people got it right with the fashion department, the makeup for the most part was quite subtle for such a vibrant event. Fear not ladies, I’ve got you covered with some easy festival makeup and hair looks that you can hopefully recreate and you will be festival-ready next time.
Beauty lovers were born to attend music festivals. It’s your chance to be the most extra version of yourself with absolutely no reservations. Music festivals however tend to pose a beauty conundrum. On one hand, you don’t want to be that girl wearing all the glitter and looking like a walking Christmas tree while on the other, you don’t want to appear like plain Jane. Here is how to strike the perfect balance.
Glitter and Rhinestones: – Don’t let anybody convince you that glitter is overrated. Beyoncé rocked a glitter eye for her Coachella performance therefore if glitter is good enough for her, then it’s good enough for us too. The key here is everything in moderation!
If glitter is too much or is intimidating for you, how about rhinestones? You can get as creative as you want with the placement and they add that extra pop to your makeup look.
A tip on how you can rock glitter for Spring or incorporate glitter into an everyday look is by wearing a glossy eye makeup with a touch of glitter. Again don’t go overboard with the glitter to avoid it creasing and separating.
Multi-hued eyelids and Neon: – Who says you can only wear one eye shadow? Multi-hued lids can actually look amazing, provided you blend your eye shadow properly. Remember festival/carnival makeup is supposed to be extra so don’t shy away from colors. Neon colored eye shadow is another look you can opt for. This is the one time you can use those rarely touched colors on your eye shadow palette or better yet, use a UV neon shadow.
Obviously you may not be able to wear multi-hued eye shadow or neon eye shadow on a day to day basis but a great twist to this is switching up your black eyeliner for a colorful one. You can try a pencil liner in green or even blue.
Body/face Paint: – Nothing says festival ready like body paint. You can get to play around with patterns and ultimately come up with the design that you want. The key however is to look festival ready and not like a circus clown.
Colorful wigs or braids: – Colored braids are the easiest way to make a statement. This is also how you can get away with long hair at a festival without it becoming completely matted. Wigs are also a fun and easy way to switch up your look and get into the festive vibe. Ditch your conventional wig for a more colorful and playful one.
The Pipe Braid: – This has got to be the dreamiest bohemian hairstyle to ever hit festival season. Not only is this a great go-to hairstyle for music festivals, it’s also a practical look that one can rock on a daily. If you don’t have long hair, you can still do the pipe braid with hair extensions or braids.
Afro’s and Space buns:- If you want to embrace your natural hair texture then you can wear it in an Afro. This is such a great way to keep your hair low maintenance plus you can always add some hair accessories to make it stand out. But we all know big hair is already a statement on its own.
Space buns were one of the coolest beauty looks from Coachella, they are super girly and effortlessly cute. Next time you go for a festival, ditch the flower crown and try out space buns and if you are feeling extra playful, you can scatter some glitter along the hairline.
