Madora is a French retail store that was founded in 1970 in France. It offers a wide range of beauty products ranging from fragrances, makeup, skincare and even nail lacquers. The French outlet found a home in Kenya in 2015 targeting the growing interest of locals in beauty and fragrance products. Madora carries products from famous French brands such as Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Givenchy, Chanel and Black Up to name a few. The best part is that these design houses keep sending in their makeup artists to train the staff on various makeup techniques in a bid to enhance customer experience.

Tell us something about yourself and how you started your journey as a makeup artist?

My name is Aisha Zufikar, I am a professional makeup artist that deals mainly with bridals. I work in and around Nairobi but I am also open to travelling for special destination weddings as well. I’ve been a Makeup Artist since 2013 but I would say my career got really good exposure back in 2016. That’s when my career officially took off and I started getting amazing bridal bookings that have brought me to the heights of coming here to Madora and having a Masterclass with them.

My love for makeup started way back in 2011 when I was in my final year of high school. I had relatives in the U.K that would bring in makeup for selling. Whenever they would do that, I would take a few pieces for myself and start experimenting and practicing different makeup looks. That’s when I realized that I had a love for art and makeup.

I’ve always been an artist since my childhood and I actually started off as a henna artist. Naturally I would interact with brides while doing their henna and would often get asked whether I offer professional makeup services. That’s what motivated me to kick start my career in makeup and beauty.

What can you tell us about your Masterclass?

Well, this Masterclass was mainly for Eid but at the same time, it’s also a great way to expose the clients to a variety of designer brands and to Indian Bridal Makeup in general. I demonstrated a look that will hopefully inspire the crowd to recreate it on their big day. It also happens to be my birthday month so this Masterclass was my way of giving back.

What are your top three must have beauty products?

Definitely a good contouring and highlighting kit. I cannot live without contouring and highlighting and not just on myself, but my clients as well. Then of course red lipstick, a red lip is a must-have in my books!

What does beauty mean to you?

I believe beauty is in everyone, makeup is just there to enhance the beauty that is already in you, it not about changing you.

Any advice to upcoming makeup artists?

My most important piece of advice to upcoming makeup artist is to invest in building a makeup kit that has genuine products. Never start building your kit with bad grade or knock-off products. The problem with such products is that they often don’t give the best results and using them can cause skin irritation on your clients which can in turn bring down your market value as an artist.

Granted building a well-stocked makeup kit is not an easy task for beginner Makeup Artists. However, authentic products don’t have to be designer brands. There are some good drugstore products out there, you just have to ensure that they are genuine brands. Your makeup career needs to start off with good quality authentic products which you can get right here at Madora.

Overall, the Masterclass was a huge success and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. My most important take-away from this class was on the importance of skin preparation before makeup application which is something we often tend to overlook. You have to create the perfect base for your makeup to adhere well to, so always remember to properly cleanse and moisturize your skin well before applying any makeup product.

PS: Madora are having a 20-60% sale on selected products so if you’ve ever thought of getting your hands on some designer makeup products or on perfumes, this is the perfects time to do that.
