Instagram is such a powerful app. It’s a platform where you get exposed to so many different creatives that you probably didn’t even go out looking for. However, when you find it and you see it, most times you’re first action is to share it with someone. We came across the page Bambiface on Instagram. This is a brand that deals with makeup looks and henna work and their work is truly brilliant so we followed their page, liking their looks here and there. Then a few weeks ago, a photographer we absolutely love Caleb Okumu posted this image on his page and we saw who he tagged – Bambiface.
So it turns out that Bambiface now has Bambiwear. They launched their Malab collection and there’s something about it that just drew us in. It’s in the details, the color palettes, the prints…Perhaps, you’ll feel it too like we did.
Lysa had to know more about the Malab collection and the team behind Bambiface.
- Tell us a little bit about yourself.
We are two sisters called Suad and Rula, Somali/Kenyan living in Nairobi. Together, we are entrepreneurs who run a business with the name Bambiface.
- What drew you to the makeup industry and how did you get started?
We always loved makeup and beauty since we were children and then we developed a love for business. So we combined all that and Bambi Face was born in November 2016.
Tell us more about the Malab collection and why you decided to do it.
Having a clothing line was a dream since the age of 14. We love creativity in everything that we do and the reason why we started it was we wanted to do something that’s not there and different. Therefore, we launched the collection on Instagram in March 2018 and recently added scarfs to it.
- Let’s keep it real, how was it received?
To be honest the feedback was greater than what we expected. We have restocked the collection three times already plus this time it will be available in Somalia because of the demand there.
- Do you have a creative process and what is it?
Before we do anything we hold a meeting and discuss then come up with new ideas.
- What’s your family and support system like?
We thank God; he blessed us with a supportive family, friends and clients whom we call our Instagram family. To be honest, they are our marketers.
- What is your favorite part about this line of work? Your least favorite and why?
Actually we enjoy every part even the challenges make us stronger and more thankful. So we don’t think we have a least favorite part in this.
- What do you feel like when you see people with a Bambiface beat or adorning Bambiwear?
This is actually what keeps us moving forward; seeing people’s positive feedback means the world.
- Tell us something in your native language and provide us with a translation.
Af macaan gacan macaan baa dhaanta. (actions speak louder than words)
- What do you work toward in your free time?
Hanging out with sisters, movie nights and spending time with family.
- How can people get the Malab collection?
By ordering through Instagram (DM) and WhatsApp.
